The companion
The companion is Zyx in a corner of your screen. It does not think on its own. It shows what Zyx is doing, and it is a short way to a new chat. Everything it does goes through the same rights and approval cards as the rest of Zyx (Kernel and approvals).
How far each part is proven is on Status and limits. The Mac parts are built and tested, and have not been run on a live Mac yet.
The mark
Section titled “The mark”The Zyx cube sits in a corner of every screen. In a chat and on the new-chat screen it sits in the chat’s header instead. Drag it to another corner. It shows whether Zyx is idle, working, or needs you:
- Its tiles turn yellow only while a card waits for you.
- A small square on its corner shows when Zyx works, when it is done, and, in red, when it cannot be reached.
It follows only the chats you may open. Another person’s chat never moves your mark. You can turn it off in Appearance.
Press the mark to open a bubble:
- start a new chat, dictate, or start a huddle,
- attach a file,
- open the full chat,
- see your last chats, and write in a short chat inside the bubble.
Speak instead of typing
Section titled “Speak instead of typing”The microphone in a chat’s text box, and in the bubble, is for dictation. Press it, speak, and press it again: your words appear in the text box at the cursor. Nothing is sent until you press Send, so you can correct the words first. Speech is turned into text on your own server.
Only a huddle sends what you say at once and answers aloud. Stop speaking (or Escape) cuts a spoken answer short.
Show me where
Section titled “Show me where”In a chat, ask where something is, for example “show me the settings”. Zyx opens that screen for you and lights the spot. Only the person who asked sees it, and only in the tab that shows that chat.
If Zyx fills a field, that is a draft you can see. Nothing is saved until you press Save.
Change things by chat
Section titled “Change things by chat”Seven changes can be asked in a chat. Each one is an approval card that shows the change as a before and after, and runs with your rights only after you approve:
- edit an agent, a skill or a routine,
- create a group, or change which agents are in it,
- change the model settings or the work settings.
Zyx cannot change an agent’s limits, a signed skill, which seats are on, keys, grants, connections or permissions this way. Your own AI tool can ask for the same cards over MCP, with your own key (Use Zyx from your AI tool).
A group has its own page that lists its agents. The owner changes them there.
On the Mac app
Section titled “On the Mac app”The Mac app shows the mark over every app. Drag it anywhere. A double tap on Command shows the mark and its bubble. It never opens the microphone by itself: you type, or press the mic.
Share your screen. The screen button takes a picture of your screen. A key or a password on it stops the picture. Personal data and lines that could not be read well are blacked out. You see a preview, and only your Send puts the picture into the chat. Zyx reads the blacked-out picture again before it saves it. This needs macOS 14 or newer and the Screen Recording permission.
Walk me through an app. Ask “walk me through …” and Zyx shows you the steps in any Mac app. You do every click and keystroke yourself; Zyx never presses or types.
- The Mac shows a Start card with the goal. Nothing is looked at before you press Start.
- After each thing you do, the Mac takes a picture of the app in front, through the same privacy filter as a shared screen. Zyx answers with one next step and points at it on the screen.
- A password field, or an app Zyx never looks into (Zyx itself, keychains and password managers, login prompts, banking, trading and crypto apps), pauses the pictures.
- Next takes the next look at once. End ends the guide. It also ends when the goal is reached, after 30 minutes, after 60 steps, or after 10 minutes in which you do nothing.
- It runs on the chat’s own model and needs no extra API key. Esc stays with your app.
Take over one app. Zyx can use one Mac app for you for 1 to 15 minutes:
- You approve a card that names the app, the task and the time.
- It uses the paid Anthropic model, so it needs an Anthropic API key and the paid fallback on.
- Before a risky click, such as send, pay, delete, accept, a password field or Return, the Mac shows a second card.
- A frame around the screen says that Zyx is controlling. Esc or a double tap on Command ends it at once.
- A key or a password on the screen ends the session.
- If you touch the mouse or keyboard, or a login, password, verification code or payment shows up, Zyx stops and hands over to you. You do that part, then press Continue. If nobody comes back within 5 minutes, the session ends.
- Esc stops Zyx only. The app underneath never sees that key.
- If Zyx cannot read a screenshot with confidence, the picture is withheld from the model. Three in a row end the session.
- One session at a time.
Try it first on a harmless app, not on mail or your bank.
Who may use it
Section titled “Who may use it”The owner always may. Another person may share their screen, or be walked through an app, only if the owner turned on Bildschirm zeigen for them, and may let Zyx take over their own Mac only if the owner turned on Mac steuern. Both switches are per person and off by default. The card is approved by the person whose Mac it is.
What it does not do
Section titled “What it does not do”- It does not watch your screen on its own. Every picture is one you sent, one taken during a guide you started, or one taken during a take-over you approved.
- It does not skip an approval. The take-over is itself a card, and so is every risky step in it.
- The screen, guide and take-over parts need the Mac app. The mark, the bubble and dictation also work in the browser.
